From Model UN to the Real UN: Global Classrooms Students Visit Security Council

At a special session of the United Nations Security Council held earlier today, youths from around the world set the agenda and asked their most pressing questions via e-mails and YouTube videos. 150 students — including 20 from Global Classrooms — got the chance to visit the Security Council, ask questions of the Security Council members and Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, and have a pizza party with US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice!

CNN covered the event — and it even mentioned Model UN @ 0:28!

You can read more about it on the UN News Centre website and the US Mission to the UN website, which contains names and links of youths who submitted questions. The YouTube video submitted by 17-year-old Fabiola Mercedes Estrada of Venezuela is particularly compelling:

You can also check out the pictures on the Global Classrooms Facebook page. And you can even see a video of the entire event below, thanks to the United Nations Webcast Unit.

Congratulations to the US Mission to the UN on organizing a great event!
