Introducing &MUN!

After three years of deliberation and planning, The William & Mary International Relations Club has approved our first-ever college MUN conference, to be called &MUN (pronounced “and-MUN.”) We will host it from April 11-14, 2013 at the brand-new William & Mary School of Education.  The conference is to be focused on innovative Specialized Agencies, and we are shaping a delegate experience that is first and foremost built on personal attention. We plan to host 7 committees and are aiming for a very low delegate-to-staffer ratio. With to our ideal location 2.5 hours south of Washington, we hope to attract a diverse group of delegates from both the Northeastern and Southeastern circuits.

Why &MUN? It’s almost regarded as a sin at William & Mary to ever spell our name without the ampersand. In my opinion, this is more than a stylistic eccentricity. The ampersand symbolizes the balance that we all strive for as a school community, and we are developing &MUN according to the same principle. With our location in the heart of America’s ‘Historical Triangle’ of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown and our state-of-the art conference venue, we are striving for “History & Innovation.” While paying close attention to detail in crafting both committees and social events, we are looking forward to hosting a weekend of “Work & Play.” In exploring new ways to create partnerships with other conferences, schools, and businesses, we hope to create a delegate experience of “Diplomacy & Creativity.” At the end of the day, we want delegates to remember &MUN as a weekend of great Model UN at the same time that they remember the host of other experiences from the conference.

This is an exciting time for us. Our website, andmun.org, has just been launched, on Tuesday, April 17, we will have a brand new secretariat and senior staff, and we have begun developing the innovative SAs that we hope will set our conference apart.

Seeing of the wheels of this conference begin to move is so exciting for me. As a traveling delegate myself, I always love meeting MUN friends in different cities throughout the U.S. and around the World. I know I speak for the entire William & Mary International Relations Club in saying that we are incredibly excited to finally host you—our friends—here at our home, The College of William & Mary in Virginia.

See you in 2013!
