The United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign is launching a contest that could win you and four of your friends the opportunity to NETwork with Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal at the United Nations Headquarters on April 23! All you have to do for your chance to win is send some nets to fight malaria through this World Malaria Day 2012 contest. But everyone wins because between now and the end of the contest, anyone who donates $20 or more will receive a Nothing But Nets “Buzzkill” t-shirt! And the first team to raise $100 will get a sweet bag full of UN Foundation swag.
Every 60 seconds, a child dies from malaria—a disease spread by a single mosquito bite. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading cause of death among children in Africa. Just $10 provides an insecticide-treated bed net that can prevent this deadly disease. Inspired by sports columnist Rick Reilly, hundreds of thousands of people have joined the campaign that was created by the UN Foundation in 2006. Campaign partners include the National Basketball Association’s NBA Cares, The people of The United Methodist Church, and Major League Soccer’s MLS W.O.R.K.S.
