Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Model United Nations (SBIMUN) Recap

This recap was provided by Alex Hammer-Barulich, Secretary General of SBIMUN 2011

The SBIMUN staff ran a successful conference

The Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Model United Nations (SBIMUN) conference took place on November 5-6 at UCSB campus. The conference was composed mostly of California teams, but there were also delegates from Washington (U Puget Sound), Nevada (UNLV), and Arizona (NAU). It was unofficially the largest conference on the West Coast with 360 delegates and 24 schools.

Delegates participated in two traditional General Assemblies (DISEC and UNHRC), four specialized/crisis hybrid (World Summit on the Information Society, G20, UNEP, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights), and four crisis committees (UNSC and threeway crisis between USA-NSC, PRC-State Council, and ASEAN Executive Leadership Summit).

Outside of committee delegates also had opportunity to experience the area first-hand with tours of Isla Vista (focused on the history of student activism) and downtown Santa Barbara.
