WAMUNC Photo/Video Blog: “The Age of Imperialism” Joint Crisis Simulation

WAMUNC features an ambitious 6-committee joint crisis simulation on mid-19th century politics called “The Age of Imperialism.” Students have taken on the roles of leaders from the United Kingdom, Russia, Prussia, Austria, France, and the Ottoman Empire.

It’s been cool to see these students take what they’ve learned about 19th century history and then engage the material using a Model UN framework. Check out this video of the Prussian Minister of War negotiating with her counterparts from Russia and the Ottoman Empire about a possible alliance:

Elaborate costumes and props have taken this simulation to another level:

Behind the scenes, crisis director Sheng Zhou explains the simulation:

The crisis staff has been hard at work creating a fun educational experience for delegates. The simulation features an online battle map and a WordPress site to keep all committees updated simultaneously — check it out here. And to top it off, Sheng brought in the big guns — McMUN Secretary-General and MUN rockstar Nida Nizam has stopped by to help out:
