Sample Day & Week at the MUN Institute

Program Length & Hours

Each MUN Institute program spans one week: Residential students arrive on campus on Sunday and depart on Saturday, and Commuter students attend classes during the day from Monday to Friday. Lessons for High School students ages 14-18 begin at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM. Each day is divided into a series of lessons and activities.

Sample Program Day: High School

8:00 am Breakfast. Residential students have breakfast on campus at a dining hall.

9:00 am Arrive in class. Participate in a fun warm-up exercise, and check out the day’s agenda.

9:30 am Impromptu Speaking Lesson. Practice speaking in a quick-paced debate exercise, and learn how to improve your speech structure and speaking style.” would add that you receive live feedback form your MUN Mentor to help improve your speech structure.

10:30 am Topic Briefing. Learn about a new and fascinating topic like Nuclear Security or Child Soldiers, taught by one of our MUN Mentors. Engage in a powerful class discussions about the topic, and share your opinion and reactions!

11:45 pm Lunch. Relax and grab some food with your friends in the university dining hall.

1:00 pm Model United Nations Procedure. Learn about Model United Nations procedure, and how to be an effective delegate.

2:00 pm Simulation. Practice all the skills you learned throughout the day in a real Model United Nations simulation. You are representing your assigned country, and now have to work with your class as a United Nations committee to solve a topic of international importance!

3:30 pm 1-on-1 Feedback. You will receive 1-on-1 feedback from your MUN Mentor to reflect on the day and receive honest and constructive feedback on what you have done well and how you can continue to improve. You will also reflect with a small group of your peers.

4:30 pm Wrap up. Get packed up, and glance at the agenda for tomorrow.

5:00 pm Departure. Commuter students depart campus and Residential students head back to the dorm and get some rest for the next day!
