West Windsor Plainsboro South is finally re-hosting SOUTHMUNC IX in an in-person format. This year’s iteration of the iconic one-day Model UN stimulation will feature 7 committees ranging in topic, difficulty, and committee premise. Our UNSC, Ad-Hoc, DISEC, and other well-known committee formats will be run by chairs and directors who are heavily experienced and awarded on the national level. Amidst COVID, Model UN faced harsh circumstances with adapting situations. The rise of the online platform led to inclusivity of far-fetching regions and elements which heightened the level of debate but often the key ingredient which is seen in person cannot be replicated in an environment like Zoom. Whether it be chair assassinations in a crisis committee or even candy-grams during FunMUN, that essence of community was missing in an online setting. Thus, SOUTHMUNC returns with the iconic and traditional concepts of a Model UN conference. The one-day conference will resemble the high-level, University conferences that are hosted on the international circuit. Further, the conference will include a wide variety of factors to help provide the most professional and meaningful experience to the delegates.
We had the opportunity to get the thoughts of past delegates and current staff on the upcoming conference. Co-Secretary General and Director of the Crisis committees, Rahul Datta, noted the approaching conference as a “keen opportunity for delegate growth and community reunion post-Covid.” Co-Sec Gen Akansha Joshi also went in depth about how South Model UN’s passion and commitment to the activity have led to successful conferences in the past and will do so again in this iteration. The dedication of the team and the ambitions are looking to make an exemplary conference come May.
