Best Delegation, Florida International University at the West Point Security Conference Closing Ceremonies

The second West Point Security conference came to a close on Sunday, 1 April 2012 after a weekend of strong debate and crisis management. While dealing with how to mitigate and react to a potential war between Israel and Iran, the delegates ended the weekend peacefully with a peace negotiation between the nations. That was, of course after the U.S. dropped a team of rangers into Yemen. There were awards given to the best, outstanding, and honorable delegate in each committee (with a few exceptions), an Outstanding Delegation award and a Best Delegation Award.

Who are the Best College Model UN Teams in America?

Which college Model UN teams are the best in the world?

We saw many benefits to answering this question and devised a methodology to create a set of rankings — we released our first set of rankings based on results up to March 21, 2011. We then took Best Delegate readers’ feedback on the rankings and methodology and made revisions to the methodology accordingly.

Please read the Methodology article first before jumping into the rankings. We clarify in the article our purpose behind the rankings, our philosophy that drives what we value in the rankings, the two Divisions in the college circuit, and several revisions to the methodology.

With that said, here are the top 1-5 teams on the college circuit! These five teams (along with 6th-ranked Harvard) were the elites for this season and consistently racked up awards at all the conferences that they attended — these six teams had a considerable margin in their overall scores compared with the rest of the circuit. Congratulations on a successful year!

by Ryan April 4, 2011 1 comment

WPSC’s keynote speaker and special guest was General William E. “Kip” Ward. General Ward served as Commander of Africa Command (AFRICOM) and he was the first officer to hold that position. I did not realize how rare it was to meet a four-star general. There are only 11 four-star generals on active duty and they [...]

That has translated well to WPSC, where the staff has operated with the same military discipline and tireless work ethic that makes them great delegates. Click [...]

Model UN rock stars and West Point first cadets George Lemeur and Andrew Swick dreamed up the West Point Security Conference during WorldMUN a couple years ago — and finally their dream has come to fruition. I had the chance to interview Commander Lemeur about the vision behind WPSC, how Model UN is viewed by [...]

The West Point Security Conference is deliberately small by design, drawing 65 delegates from Harvard, Columbia, Elon, Kansas State, McGill, and Bard at Simon’s Rock College. But WPSC also has 55 staffers (half of them in the crisis room), meaning that the conference has close to a 1:1 delegate to staff ratio — that must [...]

WPSC Photo Blog: National Security Council

The West Point Security Conference (WPSC) is designed to reflect the bureaucracy and hierachy of the United States national security system. The National Security Council (NSC), chaired by President Drew Peterson and Vice President Warren Geary, is at the top of this chain of command. The NSC issues directives down to and receives recommendations from [...]
