The following guest post was submitted by Hassan Ayub from Aitchison College, Lahore Pakistan.
A group of 7 High School students from Aitchison College, Lahore Pakistan went to China to take part in Harvard Model United Nations.
Hassan Ayub, the MUN head at Aitchison College who ended up winning a Best Delegate in the United Nations Security Council was optimistic they would bring good news when they come back to Pakistan. “The reason Harvard Model UN is the most competitive and well organized MUN in the world is due to their own teams commitment and hard work in making the event a success,” Hassan explains. He talked about how hard he and his entire team worked. He recalled that all their efforts bore fruit when his team was declared the Best Small Delegation at the closing ceremony. “It wasn’t an easy task being declared the best out of teams from 27 different countries and over 15oo high school participants all over the globe” he said. Hassan laid special emphasis on the support and encouragement given to his team by his school. “I believe that the we as a team owe our achievement to our institution “Aitchison College” for providing us with the opportunity to compete at such a level and the place to whom we owe whatever we are today” he stated.
Daanish Ibrahm Izhar, Asad Maqbool, Saif Maqbool, Raza Ellahi, Zarghaam Aamer and Mazen Loan were amongst the other members of the team, which bagged awards and made Pakistan proud.
We have been informed that the students of Aitchison College used to wear the college uniforms throughout the conference and when they were asked the reason behind this, they stated “We take pride in wearing our Uniform more than we do in wearing expensive Boss and LV Suits” Their debating skills were much appreciated by the Harvard MUN Organizers who specially invited their school to the Harvard Conference held annually in China. The school was also awarded the honor of “Outstanding Organizing” for their impeccable show of conduct and skills.
Further more, the entire team was really impressed by the level of organization and debate at the conference and has decided to incorporate a lot of the new things, which they experienced at the HMUN Conference in Pakistan’s MUNs. The diverse nature of the topics, which were being discussed in almost 16 committees at the conference, was quite impressive. Such topics offered the students the chance to present their views on an International level. The students also learned a lot more by interacting with people from over so many countries and all of them displayed their country’s culture at the Global Village.
Now that students are back home, a sense of nostalgia has set in them and they are missing HMUN a lot, the committee sessions, and just being in Beijing with their team exploring one of the most developed countries in the modern world at the moment.
In the end, Aitchison College managed to win 6 out of a possible 7 awards. 5 of them were given the coveted gavels for “Best Delegates” and 1 of the student managed to win an “Outstanding Diplomacy award”. The institution as a whole was declared the Best Small Delegation present at the conference.
Congratulations to all the winning delegations and the staffers for a successful conference.
