Fellow Members of the High School Model UN Circuit:
My name is Kapil Melkote and I am the Secretary-General for the inaugural Ohio State University Model United Nations Conference (OSUMUN). Located at The Ohio State University’s campus in the heart of Columbus, OH, OSUMUN will take place Saturday, May 12th, with optional programs beginning the afternoon of Friday, May 11th. We are excited to host you and your students here in Columbus, along with other Model UN teams from across the Midwest region.
We are confident that OSUMUN will be an incomparable experience for your team. With support from the Ohio State Department of Political Science, Department of International Studies, and the John Glenn School of Public Affairs this conference will provide programming, academic content, and facilities that are unmatched by any other Model UN conference in Ohio. The conference will be comprised of 6 committees: General Assembly, Security Council, Historic Security Council, World Health Organization, Crisis United Nations Environmental Program, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Utilizing Ohio State’s superior facilities, each of these committee sessions will feature innovations in technology and content unmatched by other conferences in the area.
In addition to Model United Nations, we want to ensure all delegates get the full Ohio State experience. We highly recommend that you and your students take advantage of the program options being offered on Friday, May 11th. Students will have an opportunity to hear presentations from Ohio State faculty members, including professors from our Political Science department, as well as meet with admissions counselors before taking a campus tour. We encourage you to explore each of our committees and view a detailed conference schedule on our website at www.go.osu.edu/OSUMUN. Registration instructions can be found under the registration tab on our website, as well as priority and late deadlines.
We are confident that OSUMUN represents a tremendous opportunity for your students to continue to expand their diplomatic skills, knowledge of international affairs, and public speaking abilities. In addition, we are also offering them the chance to experience Ohio State and our campus in a unique and interactive way that is not normally available to high school students. Throughout our extensive planning process, we have held affordability for students as a high priority, and we are pleased to announce that all of these experiences will cost only $25 per student. As this is the first ever OSUMUN, we hope to see your program get involved with what will become one of the major Midwestern conferences in the coming years. This conference is not to be missed, and we look forward to seeing you on campus for Ohio State University Model United Nations 2012.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any comments, questions, or concerns. We look forward to working with you to ensure that you and your team will be able to attend this conference.
Best regards,
Kapil Melkote
Secretary General
