The Amity International Model United Nations (AIMUN) Conference started in 2010, in New Delhi, India. And in just 3 years it has grown to become one of the biggest international high school Model UN Conferences in the country and the one of the most reputed ones as well. Hosted at Amity University, Greater Noida, this Model UN is organized by Amity Group of Schools and Amity Educational Research Centre (AERC).
The first AIMUN took place from 19th to 21st November 2010. The three days of serious, intense debates interspersed with the humorous moments in the councils made for a brilliant flagship Model United Nations Conference. Various committees like the UNGA, UNSC, UNESCO, UNHRC, ECOSOC and even the Ad-Hoc Crisis Committee, were simulated in the three day session that saw vibrant debates on various agendas – from climate change and sustainable development to a crisis scenario set up in the year 2020. Delegates described the conference as big, blithesome and bizarre. AIMUN’10 saw participation from countries like South Korea, Mauritius, India, Denmark, Germany, China and Hungary, who were all extremely glad to be a part of this enriching conference.
The following year, AIMUN took place again from 17th to 19th November 2011. It opened on a grander, bigger and better note that year, repeating its resounding success and nostalgia like never before. The three-day event was interspersed with countless emotions, months of hard work, debate, deliberations and impeccable communication skills.
With fresher hopes and bonds, AIMUN’11 took place with over 52 schools across India and 8 participating countries. This Edition saw the simulation of UNGA, UNSC, UNESCO, UNHRC, IAEA, WTO and Joint Crisis Cabinet of the US National Security Council and the Security Council of the Russian Federation. This was the first time a Joint Crisis Cabinet was simulated in India at a high school Model UN Conference. AIMUN saw delegations from Denmark, Germany, China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Maldives, Mauritius and Hungary who promised to come back yet again for this enriching conference.
This year, in its third edition, AIMUN took place from the 30th of November to the 1st of December. Over 600 Delegates and 100 Staff Members attended this year’s conference. Committees like the Council of EU, Historical Security Council and Historical NATO were added to an existing list of the conventional simulations of UNSC, UNGA, UNESCO, UNECOSOC and UNHRC, making it the biggest International High School Model UN Conference in the country. Participants from Italy, Germany, France, China, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Mauritius, Luxembourg, and Hungary were a part of this conference, yet again, debating and strengthening bonds.
This journey of AIMUN has not just seen the conference itself evolving over the years, but the evolution of the people associated with it, leaving indelible imprints in their hearts.
With innovations and a constructive growth in the past three years, AIMUN seems promising enough to bring another power packed, innovative conference next year and the following years as well. Till then it will go on to preach its belief of being the change that you want to see.
