Students who do Model UN throughout middle school and high school can win awards, take on leadership roles, and gain experiences that will enrich their college applications, personal essays, and letters of recommendation. Students can attend the Virtual Model United Nations Institute over the summers to build up their confidence and skills, and receive mentoring and personalized feedback from top college Model UN leaders.
What majors and careers do Model UN participants pursue?
Model UN students typically choose to major in political science, international relations, government, history, geography, or economics. Model UN helps students prepare for careers in law, diplomacy, government, consulting, or business. That said, a wide range of careers value the team leadership, public speaking, and problem-solving skills gained from Model UN.
Can I continue to participate in Model UN in college?
Absolutely! The most common way is to join the college Model UN club and staff its high school conference, staff its college conference, and/or compete on its travel team. Many of these clubs also have outreach programs and events with expert speakers. College students can also apply to staff conferences held at the UN Headquarters or with Best Delegate programs.
