Dear Model UN Community,
I would like to welcome you all into this new and exciting period for Best Delegate! It is our pleasure to continue to provide you with top-quality educational material and life-changing stories to help make your Model United Nations experience the best one possible.
My name is Gabriela Taveras, and I am honored to be serving as Media Co-Chair for the American Northeast. I previously worked with Best Delegate during the Spring of 2013 as a Media Associate, and I am thrilled to be part of the team once again! I have been involved in Model United Nations since 7th grade and had the privilege of serving as Vice-President of my high school’s Model UN Team. I am currently a sophomore at Seton Hall University studying Diplomacy and International Relations. I also work with the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic as the New York Area Representative, co-founded Seton Hall’s UNA-USA Campus Chapter, and work as News Editor for The Global Current, Seton Hall’s International Relations radio show. After having engaged in the competitive spectrum of Model UN for almost seven years, I have found major fulfillment in staffing conferences and helping delegates grow, hoping to give them experiences as incredible as the ones I was blessed with.
As Media Co-Chair of a region with such high Model UN activity, I want to make sure that smaller conferences at both the high school and university level become better known on the circuit. During my period as Chair, the main theme of my articles will be to “give back” to each and every one of you, especially to all you new delegates who are trying to successfully tread the waters of this wonderful world. I hope to provide you with both my own insight and that of my friends to help you walk into your first conference as confidently as possible.
Finally, I want you all to remember that what you learn in Model UN does not only apply to being successful at a conference or getting into a prestigious university, but to truly help you become the change that you wish to see in the world.
Best,
Gabriela Taveras
