Over 300 college students attended the second annual Orange County Model United Nations Conference (OCMUN) that took place on the University of California – Irvine campus this past Saturday. Mainly California colleges were in attendance, including UCSD, UCSB, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Irvine Valley College, and Antelope Valley College.
According to Secretary-General Mark Edwards, OCMUN serves as a much-needed “preparation conference” for California-based Model UN teams. The PAXMUN Conference used to fill this role but it stopped organizing several years ago. A PAXMUN veteran, Mark established OCMUN in 2010, which “brought back the preparation conference to Southern California.” Mark attended Huntington Beach High School, where he was Secretary-General, and he is currently a graduate student at Seton Hall University. Mark also staffs the National MUN Conference in New York, as does several of the OCMUN secretariat.
